Have You Not Achieved Your Career Goals? Learn Why

Imagine waking up every day inspired to go to work and returning home at the end of the day feeling fulfilled by the work you have done.

Is that your experience?

If not, it is probably due to one or more of the following common mistakes:

1. Not recognizing how God has wired you.

Identify your:

Values - Deeply-held beliefs that guide your life.

Interests - Something that draws your attention.

Skills - What you know how to do, e.g. solve problems, speak in public, etc.

Personality - The combination of attributes that form your character, e.g. outgoing, dependable, etc.

Passion - What you love to do, e.g. solve problems, speak in in public, etc.

2. Not having a written goal.

A goal must be:

S - Specific - Defines exactly what you want.

M - Measurable - How you will know when you have achieved your goal.

A - Achievable  - Challenging, but possible to achieve.

R - Relevant - Related to your values, interests, skills, personality and passion.

T - Time-Definite - A date by which you will have achieved your goal.

3. Not believing that you can achieve your goal.

As Henry Ford said, "You can believe you can or you can believe you can't. Either way you will be right."  So, believe that you can achieve your goal.

4. Being afraid.

As Zig Ziglar said, "Fear has two meanings: "Forget Everything And Run" or "Face Everything And Rise." The choice is yours."

5. Not having a written, detailed plan.

Write down each action you will take to achieve your goal and the date by which you will have completed the action.

6. Failing  to visualize the achievement of the goal.

Where there is no vision the people perish. (Proverbs 29:18 KJV)

You must see your yourself as having achieved the goal.

7. Failing to pick a role model.

Identify someone who has done what you are seeking to do. Imitate them, and you will achieve the same results.

8. Failing to take massive action.

Take some action every day that moves you closer to achieving your goal.

9. Getting distracted.

Stay focused on achieving your goal and do not let other things deter you.

10. Failing to persevere.

Never quit when you encounter the inevitable obstacles.

"Never, never, never give up". (Winston Churchill)
